SA 2010: Day 1, Ikea

Rather more spontaneously then I usually do things, I decided to take a trip to South Australia to visit a few friends.  And so I found myself at Adelaide airport at noon, deplaning and coming face-to-face with my friends Vicki and Gaelyne (or @mundoo and @FlitterbyG as I usually call them).  I met mundoo as a twitter-ing geocacher and met FlitterbyGthrough her.  We spend a lot of time together online, so as the cheap direct Hobart <–> Adelaide flights would soon be stopping (temporarily or permanently I don’t know) I decided to just go.

Our first order of business was Ikea.  Well, actually, being the fabulous people we are it wound up being all we did!  I’m not usually a shopper, but I do like Ikea – and we don’t have one in Hobart.  It’s actually a great way to get to know someone even better.  We walked around ooh-ing at lots of things and occasionally expressing our displeasure.  For example, this lamp messes with my head! I just want to grab it and straighten it!!

I got to find out what mundoo’s new kitchen will look like and what style of furniture FlitterbyG likes.  And we just in general chatted and had fun.  I fell in love with some mice and a pillow.

We had a late lunch in the Ikea cafe – köttbullar all around, and I had an almond and Daim tarte.  As luggage allowances on cheap airlines don’t let you take much, I didn’t buy very many things.  It was more about hangingout with my friends.  Oh – and getting Daim chocolates!

When we left at 5 pm (yes, we spent 5 hours in Ikea!), the girls did the geocache in the car park, Flat Pack.  I’d found the cache when I visited last year with Scott, so I had a hard time not looking at where it was as they were searching!

After Ikea we made our way to FlitterbyG’s house.  I had brought salmon with me from Tasmania – some smoked and some fillets.  So I cooked.  We started off with smoked salmon on Leksands Cripbread (from Ikea).  For mains I christened one of the pans FlibberbyG got at Ikea and we had salmon with a chunky salad.  Not quite as good as  in Tasmania (I’d had to freeze it for transport) but not bad I guess.

Unfortunately mundoo had to go home to Hindmarsh Island that night so she could get some work done in the morning.  FlitterbyG and I stayed up a bit playing on our computers (how unusual!).
