SW VIC 2010 Day 1: Ikea Meet-Ups

Emails about cheap flights that I receive while bored in my office are a bad thing.  Sometimes they make me do rash and spontaneous things, such as book flights to Melbourne for Scott and I.  Which I did!  Of course then we were left with deciding what to do.  And only had just over a week to organise it.  Scott mentioned he’d like to see a bit more of Victoria than Melbourne and perhaps see the Great Ocean Road, so I organised a camper.

Such a short visit, and with hardly any lead time, made meeting up with people difficult.  But a few brave souls met up with us at Ikea, which was our first stop after landing and picking up our camper.  Our friend Helen braved the medication she was on (and tolerated my insistence that she model a hat):

I also got to meet two of my Twitter friends for the first time IRL, @Jaffnutter and @polyxena.  🙂

It was a flying Ikea visit – we were only at Ikea for 4 hours.  😉  We didn’t do our usual thorough Ikea shop, but we did get a doona cover set and towels (so we didn’t have to worry about the impossibility of returning the camper with clean linens at 8 am on Sunday!) and our usual foods, lots of Daim and ginger thin biscuits.  Then we were on the road!

We headed SW, wanting to be near the coast to camp so when we woke up we were ready to hit the Great Ocean Road. Taking up a recommendation from SamCarter, we camped in a pull-off near Anglesea. Perfect!
