MullinItOvr Visits Snuva HQ

MullinItOvr‘s probably my most successful convert to geocaching.  We first met when we worked together on the CCHP project, and she’s still one of my best friends.  And the fact she’s becoming increasingly active as a geocacher helps.  (However having more finds than me on more than one weekend recently is just plain cheeky!)  She lives in Launceston and often has to come to Hobart for meetings, etc.  When she does, she stays at Snuva HQ.  She was down again, so after work we quickly headed home to change and get Lottie, then we were off for a walk.

I had to do some maintenance on a cache, however I don’t want to get a reputation for pimping my own caches!  So our first goal for the evening was to seek gorbak‘s first hide, Knopwood Hill: Search of Big Tracks.  Neither of us had found it, and I thought it would be a nice uphill track for us to give our legs and lungs a workout.  We parked on the South Arm Highway where a fire trail meets the road and headed up.  Unfortunately in the first couple hundred metres there were lots of jumpy ants; as I’m becoming more sensitive to them I’m always on the lookout for jack jumpers!  Thankfully we didn’t see any more as we walked further up the track.  It was fairly typical fire trail – unsealed, some water erosion, and lots of gravel in the dirt that can act like little roller skate wheels if you’re a klutz like me!  But it wasn’t tough going.  Of course, when we were going uphill we had the view to our backs, and what a lovely view it was!  Most of the way up there were just enough trees and shrubs that you couldn’t photograph the view – however they were sparse enough that you could tell the view would be great.  Near GZ there was a clearing, so we had a full view across the Derwent towards Mt Wellington.  This made it well worth the walk up!

The walk down was pleasantly uneventful.  Although it’s easier on the lungs, I think going downhill can be less pleasant than going uphill, mainly as I’m more likely to slip and look an idiot.  I was in luck as this time I didn’t have any falls.  Heading downhill we were constantly looking at the views out across the river – and also watching a rain cloud make its way towards us.  We timed it perfectly: dry when getting into the car, and raindrops started to hit the windscreen as we pulled away!

Guitar Pick Geocoin from hi_pressureOur next stop was SG-3’s house to drop a geocoin into his letterbox.  As a thank you for going night caching with him when he visited Hobart, hi_pressure sent some guitar pick geocoins for me to give to the DDTs and SG-3.  I still hadn’t given SG-3 his, so I wanted to drop it off in his letterbox.  I was trying to figure out which letterbox was his (there seems to be a second driveway to his property with a ‘B’ on the letterbox) when I saw that one had something on it with ‘Snuva’!  I’d mentioned that my usual small plastic bag supplier no longer had any, so he’d left me a bag of bags!  Very nice, and I now have plenty in two small sizes!  This enabled me to put out a replacement for the GCA movable that went missing after I hide it near the Royal Hobart Hospital, Travelling Man.  I hid it in a spot I’m thinking of putting a traditional, then it was off for some maintenance at Soldiers Walk.  That achieved, it was time to head home.

We arrived back home at 8.40 pm (LOVE long summer nights!).  Scott had already had a bit of the cheesecake MullinItOvr had made, but it was time for some serious food.  MullinItOvr treated us to a yummy, yummy meat at Tandoor & Curry House.  We ate and ate and hungered no more!  We couldn’t face cheesecake when we arrived home, however it makes a great breakfast with fresh strawberries.  🙂
