Quick Haunt, then a Visit with Flip!

Lottie Running at Cornelian Bay

Last night Lottie and I just went to Cornelian Bay for a brief ‘Haunt’.  We did not get there until late as Scott and I have visited his father in hospital after work, and we did not stay late as some friends were coming over.  It was rather a shame as it was a beautiful day, however a short visit is better than one at all!

Our time there highlighted something else Lottie has learned in the year she’s been with us: to come when called.  There was another dog who was full of energy, life, and the joy of running off-lead, but who would not return to his owner.  She’s already been trying to get him to leave for half an hour when we arrived.  I felt quite sympathetic; Lottie has done the same to me and Scott.  It’s the magical complete deafness that overcomes the creature.  So I tried to stay long enough to use Lottie as a ‘lure’ for the other dog.  They were getting on well playing chasings, so I hoped I could call Lottie back and the other dog would follow.  He was quite good at staying out of reach, but he was finally caught.  I was proud of my little returning schnauzer.

We did a quick shop at Coles, then back to Snuva HQ to await the arrival of the DDTs and Flip!  Denise received an Oregon 300 for her birthday, so she came over so I could help out with a few things.  She now has the waypoint export macro going on GSAK and knows how to change the menus on the Oregon.  It made me wish I’d gotten the 300 rather than the 200; it would be nice to be able to beam thingos.  I gave her a bit of advice on free maps, and we’ll have a play uploading maps to her device at the event next Monday.  Denise and Tony had brought some yummy wine and cheese, and I followed that by a nice overcooked stir-fry.  Then we saw some of the photos from their trip to South America last years.  Oooohh!!  Very nice.

Having the DDTs over also highlighted another change in Lottie over the last year: she no longer hides when strangers come to Snuva HQ.  She might get excited and a bit confused (really Lottie, barking and wagging your helicopter butt at the same time gives a mixed message!), but she no longer needs to hide behind a chair or be fed an entire pack of liver treats just to be seen for a moment.
