We were certainly looking forward to this day: we were headed to Chester for a day with our sometimes Australian/always British friend Miranda! We’d had a lovely night’s sleep at our B&B, and we had trouble getting Eskil away from so many fine toys.
Miranda met us at the B&B then we headed to the Park & Ride on the outskirts of Chester. We arrived mid-morning, but it was already busy. We needed more coffee.
Miranda recommended the bus tour, and I must say it was a good one. Independent, quirky, and with a live, knowledgeable guide rather than a recording.
Afterwards we grabbed some sandwiches for lunch – then Eskil rode an elephant.
Miranda headed out for an errand while we walked the city walls. It’s a stunning city. I’d visited before and walked the city walls, but I didn’t remember how stunning it is.
We met back up at the Roman amphitheatre.
We needed more refreshment, so grabbed more iced coffees and rested near the cathedral. Well, most of us rested – Eskil ran wild and crazy. He adores Miranda.
Then we did a bit of shopping.
On the way back to our B&B, Miranda took us to Daresbury. Not only is it a stunningly beautiful church, but also known for its association with Lewis Carroll who was born at the vicarage. There are stained glass windows and a centre in his honour.
Miranda left us at our B&B. We’ll see her back in Oz!
It was a big day for Eskil, so he headed to bed while we had a ‘picnic’ dinner in the sitting room next door.
