Australia Day

Australia Day HauntingI love the first 6 months of the year, and for a very Australian reason: public holidays.  We’ve got them happening all over the place in the next couple months.  Hobart Regatta Day, ANZAC Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday (I’m not making that one up – it’s real in Tassie!), the Queen’s Birthday.  And today we enjoyed the first of these beautiful, beautiful holidays, Australia Day.

For those of you in unenlightened countries, Australia Day is our national holiday.  For Americans, think 4th of July – but without the fireworks (because we never revolted and still have ‘Royal’ in the names of institutions and the Queen’s head all over) and more BBQing.   And stubbies of beer in stubbie holders.

So how did we celebrate?  Well it was a Monday evening, so we were down at Cornelian Bay near Snuva’s Haunt (the geocache – not web site) having wine and nibblies with Fairly Magic and the oldest gen of 3gens.  Lottie and Harry became muddy, and a good time was had by all!
