Archaeology in the Kitchen

Following on from the work we did in 2007 (GAH! it was that long ago?), we have ripped up all the many layers of vinyl and linoleum in the kitchen. Next step will be to have the floorboards polished. The most exciting part was the ‘archaeological finds’, i.e. the newspaper from 1947 between the layers.

There’s some other photos of exposing floorboards in this set: www.flickr.com/photos/cragg-ohlsson/sets/72057594100661311/

According to the newspaper we found in the flooring, Britain was in economic crisis, shoulderpads were in fashion, and Frank Sinatra was a movie star.  So many things change, but so many things stay the same.
