Eskil slept well but unfortunately didn’t sleep in, so we were all up bright and early just before 6 am. We attempted to contain Eskil’s energy to the hotel room, but we headed out a little after 7 to hunt down some breakfast.
Our ‘neighbourhood’ was North Melbourne / Parkville, so we headed to Errol Streat.
We wound up at ‘Hot Poppy’, and it was a great cafe. Fabulous coffee; yummy food. We then headed back past the hotel before heading to the tram. We changed trams in the CBD. . .
. . .and headed for St Kilda. St Kilda is known as a vibrant suburb full of artists, musicians, cafes, etc, so we did what you’d expect us to do: went to a playground. It had a lot of equiment Eskil loved, including a flying fox that he could hang from himself, but his favourite was a ‘digger on a spring’ thingo.
On the way to Acland Street, Eskil saw bins being emptied! And bikes! With riding a digger in the playground and the tram rides, that was shaping up to be a top day for him.
We had gelato for our first course, then got some cakes to take back to our flat as the next course.
We headed ‘home’ so Eskil could have his nap, however Eskil thought napping on a tram would be even better.
He slept through a couple tram changes, and then woke up as we tried to put him to sleep in the travel cot. Sigh. So we headed out for a walk in the hottest part of the day. We decided to try for a SamCarter geocache nearby.
I must admit it wasn’t my favourite walk. It was hot, we were tired, and we were stressed. But it’s a lovely neighbourhood and reminds me a lot of where I lived in Sydney – Annandale. Eventually we tried out the playground close to our hotel, which got Eskil’s seal of approval.
It was hot. Very hot.
Once we got ‘home’ and Eskil got to bed, it was my turn to head out and get dinner (Scott had gone the night before). At this point it had cooled down a lot, and I had a lovely walk.
We had dinner again on our balcony, which faced the sunrise rather than sunset. However we could see the sunset shining on the trees. There were a lot of NOISEY birds each night just after Eskil went to sleep. But a lone silent bird would visit us, and we would let it know that it was our favourite bird.
