Candle Out, Time to Dig In

Candle Out, Time to Dig In

Some sort of problem has occurred with time and space, because my little boy could not possibly be one year old!  But no matter what calendar I looked at yesterday, that’s what it said.  The whole family has been ill, so although we were feeling a bit better yesterday the day was fairly low key.  And for those wondering why you haven’t been invited to his birthday party, we have delayed it so we don’t get everyone ill!  So yesterday we took things easy, grabbing coffee with a friend, mummy buying some Dr Seuss books, Eskil having a LONG nap in the car (something he seems to love), and receiving presents – books from some wonderful friends, a wooden truck he can scoot on, a squishy globe pillow, etc etc!

A few new things in Eskil’s life:

  • Eskil crawls like a mad thing.  If you leave Lottie’s water bowl on the floor – zip! He is there!  If you open the fridge, zip!  He is there.  He doesn’t just crawl on hands and knees; often he ‘crawls’ on his hands and feet.
  • Eskil now has TWO teeth.  The second appeared, then disappeared again for a week, then raised it’s little head again while Eskil had a cold and wasn’t feeling well.  Not fair, tooth!
  • He still loves swimming lessons!  He loves water any way he sees it: in Lottie’s water bowl, in the pool, coming out of the tap, in the shower with mummy. . .
  • He is going to daycare three days a week.  He seems to like it much more than his mum likes being away from him.  He is known there for being a happy, cheerful, and relaxed boy.
  • I haven’t mentioned eating in a while, but obviously he is still doing it.  He has gone off solids a bit with teething and having a cold but is offered 3 meals a day of mushy things and finger food once or twice a day.  He still loves pumpkin, so of course I had to develop a baby-friendly pumpkin cake for his birthday.  His favouritest thing is still breastmilk, but alas that is slowly coming to an end.
  • He still ADORES Lottie.  He can now corner her so he can hug her and grasp her fur in his strong, pinchy little hands.  And Lottie is still very patient with him.  In general she doesn’t seem to understand the point of him, but she loves going into his room to check on him at night with me and going in to wake him  up in the morning.
