Muggles Make Me Meloncholy

Muggles, muggles, everywhere,
And my spirits sink;
Muggles, muggles, everywhere,
Nor any desire to think.

Geocaching on Sunday just didn’t happen.  First Lottie and I went to the end of Tolosa Street to try to get on the track to a cache we’ve wanted to do.  Well, to clarify that, a geocache I’ve wanted to do – and as Lottie is enthusiastic about anything and everything (that doesn’t involve a bath), you can assume she wants to do it too.  However, as had been the case Wednesday evening as well, there were suss looking youths hanging out where I’d need to ditch the car.  I really didn’t fancy 1) leaving the car near bored bogans or 2) being a lone female heading off onto a bush track with threatening looking males watching.

So we headed to Howrah, where on a previous occasion I’d spent time wandering the streets looking for a certain track.  I’d found one I assumed  lead to another track we wanted to take, but I was wrong.  It lead to an interesting public picnic spot sort of hidden in a finger of bush behind back gardens, but it didn’t let you access the tracks on the hill behind.

So we headed to Salamanca to try out a new multi.    Our first problem was the cache listing seems to be missing 2 waypoints.  I knew what one of them probably was, and I could easily guess the information that would have been collected at the other.  So I calculated GZ and there were – yes, you guessed it - muggles.  And they wouldn’t move on, no matter how long we waiting or what we did.  Sometimes if you do strange things, you can get people to move away from you.  Lottie and I danced.  The muggles didn’t move.  I gave up. But at least Lottie was much admired by people who were celebrating the last day of spring by sitting on the footpath and the lawns drinking.

Next we tried the 2nd waypoint of another multi.  I already had the first waypoint, and I’ve tried for this 2nd before but there are always muggles around.  This was no exception.  Seriously, when a waypoint is hidden in a very small park with the houses on either side right up to the property lines on a small street it’s almost impossible to find a time when you just ‘blend in’.  I tried sitting and reading in the park once and had people from the house next door looking through their curtains at me.  Why?  It’s a park!  Well, probably as there’d been a lot of people doing strange things in the front garden bed of the park recently (or at least since the cache was published).  Anyway, there were actually children in the park (yes – outside and away from their televisions!), so Lottie and I left.

And so it was we headed off for a cache I’ve been saving for a caching emergency: In Cache of Emergency.  And lo – there were muggles there.  This is when I threw in the towel and headed home, findless.  And that was our Sunday.
