Late December Get-Away Day 4: Goin' out with a Boing

After the HandsomeMan and I had a good sleep (female slave didn’t so much – she spent the entire night imagining every slight tickle or itch was a tick!  hahah!), we awoke to an overcast but otherwise nice day.  Coffee was made and sipped while consuming pull-apart bread (“Would you like that sliced?” asked the polite young woman serving the HandsomeMan.  “No thanks”), strawberries, and chocolate covered shortbread.

After brekkie, we headed west to Burnie and by 9:34 am had scored our first find of the day, a most excellent offering from the engerizers!  I felt a bit guilty approaching Plattacat Returns since we were just downhill from the energizers’ HQ and we weren’t calling in for a visit.  But as the trip wasn’t planned out in advance so we’d given no warning of our arrival, and as the slaves were a bit wiffy after several days camping/no showers/bushwalking, it wasn’t really appropriate to give the ‘gizers a call – and they’d probably be out camping with the older folks anyway?  In any case, as one of the finders of the original cache I knew this would be a good one. I barked instructions from the cacheMobile to my slaves. The GPSr wanted to send them into the drink until it settled, but logic prevailed and the cache was soon found. A lovely spot, as always, and another great energizer cache!

Next we were off to DUCKS WITH BALLS  We looked high, looked low, looked lowest. Given the last few logs were DNFs we gave up after a while – only to get home and see Dippedy found it the same day! GRRRRHHHGGGGHHH!!!!

10:30 am  Then off we went to an easy find at Kiah Koala and friends.  Easy but in some ways frustrating find – but it had nothing to do with the cache though! This is a lovely spot, and we grabbed a coin present that was left for the next finder by forthferalz.  But the frustrating part: why would you come to this lovely little spot to eat McDonald’s food and drink a case of beer? And then leave all the remains of this delicious and nutricious feast just lying all about – when there is a bin just seconds away?!?! I had my slaves clean up the area – only took less then a minute – why couldn’t the people who left them there have done this?! Anyway, area all clean and lovely again now!

And so we hit RUBIX at 10:45 am.  Hmm, I think I’ve been in this area before. . .   Nice easy find. There were plenty of muggles, but they were all so involved in playing cricket (great to see teenagers actually moving!) it wasn’t an issue. Nice little spot!

We had been as far west as we were going to go, so headed east and to HEY DUDE.  Looked up, down and around, tried rob’s coords and sirius’s coords – alas to no avail.  We actually spent quite a long time on this one as there were soooo many places to hide a cache (some that seems great ideas. . .and some not so much), but in the end it really was not to be.

Having DNFed another in this series the day before as well already DNFing 2 of his other caches this morning, for some reason we decided to give robtas’s A GOOD WALK RUINED #2 a go.  A fairly easy find – circled around the area until we could see it from a distance.

The name has had me curious about Don,t be the seventh for a long time.  Well, at 12:40 pm I finally found out what the name refers to!  I heeded the warning signs and found the cache. The new log book nice and dry, but the hider’s signature items are quite pongy and mouldy. I was tempted to take them out of the cache, however as they are part of the cache’s history and the ziploc is keeping the new log book dry I decided to leave them be.

Richo,s Road also sparked my curiosity, and makes a nice series of caches that use commas where apostophes would be more traditional ;-p  This is not the only unusual thing about the cache.  Our coordinates were 100 m out, but we still found it (the slaves accused me of changing the coordinates on the GPSr so I would have a longer walk).  We stopped for a bit of lunch, then were off to [Illuminati] Ghost of Caching Presents. Such a lovely walk! Took the loop towards the cache, found it despite it being such a small micro, then continued on and enjoyed the loop. Snuva would like it noted that this is an especially good walk for sniffing: humans may take visual memory captures, but I took olfactory ones away – very special.

And that brings us to my last find of my last caching trip for the year, Boing, Boing.  This is a lovely little spot which typifies another year of caching: I would never have found this spot if a cache hadn’t been placed here. Fascinating little boing – why didn’t I take any photos?!?!?  We’ve passed this way several times before and had absolutely no idea this was here.

On the way home, the slaves stopped off somewhere which had a strange sign:  Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm.  This is odd as they assured me that nothing I would like was served there – apparently they only serve raw mushrooms and everyone must sit on separate areas and not socialise – I’d hate that, so no wonder they put up such a misleading sign!
