We woke up at 5 am. Not my favourite thing. We loaded the van for the last time, then headed to Heathrow. We dropped my parents off at the airport early for their flight, but we hoped then there was plenty of time to check in, grab breakfast, and not have to rush between gates.
Once we left Heathrow we had a few hours before we needed to drop off our van and pick up our new car, so we headed to Windsor and grabbed some takeaway coffee and breakfast, which we had in a playground we’d spied the day before.
I think this is perhaps Eskil’s favourite attraction in Windsor.
For Australians who are accustomed to black swans, it was interesting to see so many white swans.
We then turned in the van at one car rental place, then took a taxi (who charged us an extraordinary amount) to our next rental company. After almost a month of driving vans around, Scott finally had something a bit smaller! We then just headed off on beautiful country roads. We were in Henley-on-Thames around lunchtime, so we decided to have lunch at a lovely riverside pub. Eskil, who hasn’t had much food other than drinking milk the whole time we’ve been away, ate half of my meal and half of Scott’s – hooray!
We walked around Henley, did some shopping (Scott and I both bought clothes – but Scott went WILD!), and in the market square I found a Bob the Builder for Eskil at a charity table. He loves it.
We drove through the countryside staying on small lanes. We drove through Oxford but were put off by how busy it was.
We arrived in Buckingham in late afternoon had some afternoon tea.
After checking in at our accommodation, we found a laundrette. I must say it was FILTHY, but we needed to do a wash and we just hoped the inside of the machines had to be clean. Right? Right?! We had dinner on the back deck of the pub where we were staying.
