Dog Day Afternoon

For the first time ever, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens opened their gates for canine visitors.  Yes, huskies that are part of the festivities during the longest night / winter festival are seen there once a year, however the general pupulation has never been welcome.  As usually a trip to the Gardens induces severe feelings of Dog Guilt, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to take Lottie.  As it was such a special treat for her to be able to go into the Gardens, I’ll let her write this post:

Today we went to a park I hadn’t been to before.  I knew as soon as we entered the gates that it would be a special place.  The paths were lined with stones, and many of them had been freshly scented by my colleagues.  I recognised the scent of some friends but also lots of new scents.  I couldn’t wait to see everyone!

We continued walking and the great smells just kept coming.  There were so many bottoms!  Everyone’s tail was wagging happily – well, except for that one Border Collie pup that was a bit startled by the attention it was receiving.  Instead of heading straight for the sound of music and gathering crowds, we kept to higher paths to start with.  There were ducks!  And I posed prettily in Scott’s arms for a photo:

There were lots of interesting bottoms to smell down every path we took!  My female human was taking lots of photos of everything.  We walked along lots of paths – I guess to try to find all the bottoms to smell – and even went into a strange building where all the windows were on the top rather than the sides.  It’s good we don’t live in it as I would need an extremely tall the armchair to stand on so I could look out the window and yell at the neighbours about what they’re doing wrong.

Next we went to Peter Cundall’s Garden, which I thought was very strange as I thought his garden was in that thing in the living room with moving pictures.  But when I think about it, I haven’t seen him there for a while so this must be where he moved his garden.  There were lots of veggies and fruit and hops and stuff.  And even a humble bee doing duck dives into an artichoke.

I found some seriously good scratching grass!

For a while it seems we visited Japan – I don’t know why anyone complains about overseas flights as I don’t even remember it.  I was happy as apparently there are plenty of dog butts to sniff in Japan too!

When we left Japan, we headed towards the bigger gather, and on the way I saw Felix, the brindle friend I meet in the park on Tuesdays!  The people chattered while Felix and I communicated in our own special way, then we all went on our ways.  We walked through the main gathering – there were stalls, but I was more interested in the bottoms – and on the hillside saw a friend having a picnic.  It was Rex, who I met a few months ago at Knocklofty Reserve.  We posed for some schnauzer photos – the best of the day, of course.

After saying good bye to Rex, we wandered the paths some more and eventually left the gates and got back into my chariot.  I hope we visit this park again!

There’s lots more photos of me (and other stuff) here.
