Miles travelled: 5361 to 5453 (total of 92 miles)
Weather: clear, sunny, with clouds – one which sprinkled rain on us on the road to the Grand Canyon – then it poured exactly 24 hours before our wedding!
Highlight of the day: Grand Canyon – arriving at Grandeur Point

Disa woke up first and chatted a bit with Bill (of Bill and Bee, the campground host) as he was leaving the loos he had just polished (really – he polished them – under his dog, Raggedy Anne’s, supervision of course). Scott eventually awoke, and we had our coffee with eggs scrambled with whatever was leftover in the Eski as we wouldn’t need it at Grand Canyon!
We left our camp site at 9:40, did a few geocaches, and found Williams to be just a lovely little town. Driving from Williams to Grand Canyon, Scott looked at a dark cloud and ‘jokingly’ said that it was a rain cloud. So of course it rained on us. And of course Disa stressed about this, wondering what would happen if it was raining when we were supposed to be perched on the rim with a judge and photographer!
We headed straight for Grandeur Point when we arrived (or at least what we thought was Grandeur Point – there were no signs for it) and took in the views. It was just past 1 in the afternoon, so we then made our way to Bright Angel hoping we would be able to check into our room. Not until 3 or 4 pm. So we had a lunch of soft pretzels and ice cream and checked out what could be seen from the promenade. We got to our room close to 4 pm, and Scott found somewhere to get his hair cut – and made an appointment for 5pm. He ran through the shower and was off, and Disa took a more leisurely shower.
Scott had brought wine out from the van, so we hoped to enjoy a glass while watching the sunset (24 hours from our wedding). As soon as we stepped out with the wine – RAIN. Of course, it’s Scott’s fault. He assured me it wouldn’t rain tomorrow. After much wine and much stressing over weather for the next day (the stressing was Disa), we went to the Arizona Room for dinner. The food was fantastic – the service was a bit brusque to begin with. But the food was fantastic!
Scott’s Comments – Pomposity Warning
After telling everyone for months that Disa and I were going to The Grand Canyon we arrived to find that the word “The” is never used in its title. It’s referred to as Grand Canyon. Please be warned that, now that I’ve actually been to Grand Canyon, I intend to lose no opportunity to be insufferably pompous by correcting anybody who refers to The Grand Canyon.
