Boating for Beginners. . .and New Norfolk

Salamanca Square Knock, knock On Christmas eve morning, Lottie and I had tried to complete the Boating for Beginners multi-cache – but I wound up dropping and losing the cache container.  Roehm soon had the cache up and running again, so when Scott and I got home from the first day at the Taste Lottie and I went back out to log the cache.  As there is so much happening in town with the Taste, the Sydney to Hobart yacht race finishing, etc I thought parking would be horendous.  However we just parked up on Battery Point and had no problems.  Lottie enjoyed the walk – new dog scents I guess.  The cahce was soon retrieved and logged, but I wasn’t quite satisfied.

So somehow we wound up at New Norfolk.  I had several unfound caches in the area, and it was a lovely day.  We started off at A Sporting Chance, which I’ve had the coordinates for since it was published but which has spent a bit of time unavailable.  As Lottie’s been so patient during the drive in the car, a leg stretch seemed a popular idea so we walked to Eighty steps and just off the track (2).  It was lovely along the river.  No other dogs, but Lottie enjoyed the smells, the ducks, and putting paw to track.  At GZ Lottie surprised a young girl; she came along the track and was startled to see a dog in an unexpected spot.  The things we do for a smilie. 😉  Next off was Peppermint Crisp.  After a quick find on that we headed out to Here Fishy Fishy.  This one had been muggled, replaced, then the last log reported it as muggled again.  I’d been there before it had been replaced, so thought I’d have a look.  Nothing – definately had been muggled again, so I replaced it and did some much needed CITO.  Just before I was going to head back to the car I spotted 3 chickens just wandering nearby.  The last time I’d come to the area I thought I’d seen chickens, so it was nice to see I hadn’t been imagining things!  But Lottie was even more excited than I was!  She’d been waiting in the car, however when she saw the chickens she lept out of the car window.  The chickens scatterd, I caught Lottie, and we were soon on the road headed home.  However after a few minutes I realised the windshield of the car looked a bit bare: there was no GPSr attached to the window suction thingo.  So back I went to the cache site where I’d left the GPSr on the ground.  That was close!

Just one more quick find at There is a Scout Hall and our ‘quick trip to Battery Point’ was finished!
