15 Months Old

This month has been all about movement – moving house, and Eskil moving on his own. It’s been yet another crazy month of packing in preparation for moving to the new house. This is not a simple thing with an adventurous little boy like Eskil; basically mummy just watches him and only gets things done during his naps or when daddy is watching him and resting up from lugging furniture and boxes.

Eskil turned 15 months old on the first day he woke up in the new house.  But he was ill and home from day care, so mummy was watching him while daddy moved and some builders started doing some renovations in the house.  Whew – a lot on!

A few new things in Eskil’s life (other than his house!):

  • Eskil is still cruising around the furniture.  However now he will often crawl away from anything he can grab onto and stand up completely independently – usually with his legs wide apart and his hands raised in the air for victory.  He’ll also take a few steps, usually with his arms raised and up near his head.  Sometimes he just wants to keep walking – walk, walk, walk, bottom thump, walk, walk, walk, etc.  Of course his new house gives him much more room for adventuring.  He can crawl really, really quickly, and as the new house doesn’t have stairs inside I can let him go a bit more without worrying as much – as long as he doesn’t head out the dog door.  He LOVES to crawl-run down the long hallway.  His favourite way of being mobile though is probably grabbing onto Lottie’s back and walking around behind her.  I worry because he has such strong, pinchy little hands – she really is an exceptionally patient dog.
  • Eskil has had his second haircut.  He just keeps growing the stuff!
  • Eskil is quite good with solids.  Mummy’s challenge is to invent new finger foods that aren’t too messy, but he’ll eat pretty much anything.  Pumpkin is still a favourite as are banana and Chinese gooseberries.  But also pasta, curries, banana bread, frittata, etc.  He has even eaten crocodile this month!  However he still thinks milk is the bestest thing and the only proper way to complete a meal.
  • Eskil used to always sleep in ‘angel position’ with his arms up to the side like angel wings.  He has gone back to that and likes to grab the back of his neck before sleeping.  In his cot, he often sleeps on his tummy, either with his feet crossed or u pon his knees.
  • With Eskil more mobile, Lottie has occasionally looked like she enjoys playing with him.  She loves being chased, so I think they’re going to get on quite well soon.  Eskil still adores her and frequently gives her hugs and rests his head on her.  And pets her – slap, slap, slap.  And pulls her beard and tail.
  • Eskil’s 8 teeth are out and very sharp – and ready to bite any mummy who tries to clean them.
  • Eskil still sleeps well. He goes to sleep at around 7 – 7:30 pm and doesn’t wake until around 7 am.  He does get night terrors – he screams in his sleep but seems otherwise fine.
  • Eskil loves chatting in his own language.
  • Eskil loves sharing things.  He picks up a block and passes it to you.  You give him a block, and he gives it back to you.  He rips a tissue apart, and he passes the little piece to you.  He has food, and he’ll offer it to you.
  • Eskil loves climbing on things, including into Lottie’s chair.  This gets a bit scary with all the boxes we have stacked around for moving!
  • On the day before we moved from the old house, Eskil finally climbed the entire staircase and got to his own room unassisted (although mummy was RIGHT behind him).  We were definitely moving right in time!  He cannot figure out how to get down a step though.
  • Eskil loves laughing.  He’ll randomly find something really, really amusing and laughs from his belly.  With parents as silly as us and Lottie, he has a lot to laugh at.
