Euro14 Day 3: Uppsala

Uppsala: Min 8; Max 15. Drizzly morning followed by a sunny afternoon.

After he crashed mid-afternoon the day before, Eskil was awake, bright, and ready to start his day at midnight. His parents weren’t so keen. I tried my best to occupy him so Scott could sleep since he is the driver and NEEDS a solid sleep. (I don’t think it worked much.) It was almost a relief when Barnkanal started with In the Night Garden at 6 am.

We planned this first day to be a bit of a rest and recuperation. The other half of our group was in Stockholm, but after having journeyed from so far away we decided we’d stay somewhere smaller, so settled on two nights in Uppsala. I felt too silly talking photos of our breakfast, but the breakfast spread in Sweden is fabulous. Baked goods, cheeses, cold meats, pickles, pickled fish, hard and soft boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, fried potatoes, fresh breads and crisp breads, fruit, juices, coffee, etc. Scott had a bit of an experimental corner of his plate and tried some pickled fish; I did not.

We sent the morning driving around. It was drizzly, so we didn’t really feel like walking, so we drove through the countryside. And occasionally drove through the pedestrian zones of nice towns like Sigtuna.

Finally, outside the airport, is Sweden!

The weather was clearing in the afternoon, so we headed back to Uppsala. We drove around a bit to scope things out – why yes, if you drive the wrong way down a one way street people do stare at you; so that’s what that road sign means! – and decided to drop my parents off not far from the Domkyrka, then we parked back at the hotel and walked to meet with them.

We had coffee and cakes in a little gourmet food hall, then we checked out the Domkyrka. Eskil enjoyed playing with sticks.

We then left my parents at the Domkyrka while we walked back to the hotel to get the car.

Some LUNATIC drove up onto the paved area of the cathedral, so we quickly picked up my parents and burned rubber back to the hotel. We then left my mum behind with Eskil (his innocent face would help her get off if the authorities caught up with us) while the rest of us went to the Coop grocer to hunt down dinner. Grocers in a foreign country are so much fun! We got things for a picnic dinner as well as some essentials.

Eskil was asleep by 7 pm, and he didn’t mind everyone having a picnic dinner in our room while he slept.
