Day at South Arm

Doesn't it look tempting to hide a cache thereFor today’s adventure, I really wanted to go down to South Arm and hide a cache.  I knew exactly where I wanted to hide it – there’s a tree with a big hollow that I see every time we walk here.  I find it so tempting!  So I decided to make that a GCA traditional hide.

I love walking here.  It’s a basically treeless narrow peninsula in the middle of the Derwent.  360 views, a lovely walk.  And it’s a great spot for a dog to have a run, so coming out with Scott and Lottie was also a way to work off my guilt to not bringing Lottie when I came with SG-3 a couple weeks before.

We parked the car in the usual spot and headed off. It was a bit overcast, however in this treeless area that can be bettr than a brilliantly sunny day!!  It had been raining recently, but not today, but I was still rather careful when heading down the hill to the area with the tree that needed a cache; the ground had been full of water when I visited with SG-3 and downhills could go faster than anticipated!

Scott was calling out something about a possum as I approached the tree.  I couldn’t tell where it was (sunnies were not helping!), so just had my camera out and ready when suddenly I realised where it was and starting taking photos.  It was curled up asleep in the tree – right where I thought I’d be placing a cache.  These photos show the possum’s reaction to being woken up by me; the blurry one was taken when I saw the size of its claws and was uncertain if it was going to leap out at me or go another way!

I decided it might be best not to set a cache in that tree after all!  We enjoyed exploring the area anyway.  In most places the grass was taller than Lottie – in some reached up to our shoulders – so she was jumping and leaping through it quite happily.

After finishing the walk, I thought I’d have a look for a DDTs cache; I knew it was a beach cache and that Lottie would love it.  Surprise, surprise – she did!

Happy Lottie

13:48 Another fantastic little spot! Lottie was in heaven as we made our way to the cache on the beach. And she thanks you very much for arranging to have a friendly dog there for her to play chasings with. The cache was easily found – and what amazing views!! Why would you live anywhere other than Tassie? We took the track along the top of the dunes on the way back (Lottie’s friend still came up to play).

Thank you for showing us a fantastic spot!

When I’m out caching I tend to forget the unimportant things, like eating lunch.  Good thing I had the husband to remind me.  We stopped at Lauderdale’s Hill Street Grocer for some YUMMY salads and a Greek sweet I can neither spell nor pronounce.  We walked across the canal to a picnic bench. . .and who would have guessed there would be a cache close on.

GREAT BALLS OF ???

Our Log

15:05 Yesterday, as is usual for me, we didn’t stop for lunch at all and were starving by the time we got back to Snuva HQ at the end of the day. This time we stopped at the Hill St Grocer (not that there are that many hills right here!) and grabbed a beautiful lunch. We stopped a few metres away from GZ and had our feast, then I made the grab between muggles.
