Day 14: Too Hot for Cache

We had planned to visit an aunt then when the heat of the day was over go caching, hopefully at the Quicksilver Mines area at New Almaden.  However it was hot.  Very hot.  We visited TS, but soon after leaving her place we found ourselves cowering at an ice cream parlour.  We took our time doing things and did a few caches, however the heat just wasn’t breaking.  So we gave up on the idea of bushwalking around Quicksilver.  We took our time taking some backroads to Morgan Hill.  There we stopped for a beer or two before heading back to my parents’ house.

14:23 An easy find less than 100 metres from my aunt’s house. She found this one in its last location, so it gave me a chance to mention why a cache might be moved (and that the other location wouldn’t be a separate cache as it is too close). She’s been interested in geocaching for years, logged a couple caches, just somehow hasn’t gotten going in it. I just don’t understand. . .Thank you for the cache.

15:56 Today we caught up on a bit of sleep, then visited my aunt. Then the plan was to cache our way slowly to the New Almaden area so that by the time the temperature was coming down we’d head up into the quicksilver mines area. Well, I found out just how frustrating navigating in a place you don’t know without a base map can be – so no finds after leaving my aunt’s place. Then we got to this area and The temperature refused to budge. So heading uphill looked less and less attractive. In the end we did a couple easy caches, then went for beer! Our first Nazgul cache of this trip! Thank you for the cache.

16:09 I enjoyed looking around this little area, reading historical markers and getting stared at by turkeys. I thought reception night be an issue near GZ, so I looked where I would expect it to be and there it was. GPSr said 0 metres to GZ so it was behaving after all!Thank you for the cache.

16:26 Our first Marky and Joani cache of this trip! I recall looking for this one with chepup on a different visit but do not see my DNF log so don’t remember if it was last year or the year before (I think the year before). In any case, I found it very quickly and soon had the log signed. I had wondered about the ding in the container, but STP Ron’s log explains all. Thank you for the cache!

17:28 Thanks for looking after dog cachers, Marky and Blue. Many a time I’ve hit a ‘no dogs allowed’ trail and felt guilty about doing all that walking and passing all those lovely smells without my dog. Maybe there’s not much of a walk at this one, but there are lots of posts for four legged friends to sniff!

17:45 I DNFed this cache 30 May 2006. When you DNF a cache in a foreign country, you don’t expect you’ll get another shot at it – so finding this one today was great! We pulled off the road, and the muggles sharing the spot were just leaving. Perfect. I sat my GPSr and to take photos of the water level (LOW – I’ll upload later), and my husband grabbed it and found the cache. Double perfect (I’m always happy when he caches too!).Thank you for the cache.

Went by here earlier and was pretty certain I knew where this would be, however there were many muggles around so decided to try later when I wouldn’t be as conspicuous. Dropped in this evening and found immediately with no problems figuring out the container.Thank you for the cache!
