Euro14 Day 15: Edinburgh

Temperature: Min 9°C; Max 20°C.
Weather: Overcast with patches of rain.

We had coffee and breakfast at a cafe across diagonally across from our accommodation.
Our first breakfast in the UK
After breakfast Scott found we were only a block from the main square where we could get a hop-on-hop-off bus. He got day tickets for us, so we hopped on one that would take us on a nice loop of the city. The tour guide was Grant, and I must say he was great. He was personable, knowledgeable, and would find out our interests and point things out based on what we might like. We took the bus for its entire circuit, then took the next bus back to Edinburgh Castle.
Great location for our flat
Grant was a super terrific tour guide

Edinburgh Castle
Poor piggy, pinned down by a viking
Edinburgh Castle was under siege of tourists. I’ve been before, and it was nothing like this! (Sure, it was almost 20 years ago.)

Eskil's Edinburgh robot
Edinburgh Castle gate
Mum was able to get a car to the top rather than walking, so my father and I accompanied her and we met up with Scott and Eskil there. If anything, it was even more crowded inside the castle.
Grassmarket
We stuck it out and had a look around for and hour or two then escaped back to Haymarket for some lunch at a cafe. Eskil took a photo of his MorMor and MorFar!
Eskil's photo of MorFar and MorMor
It was a busy day so far for Eskil! He fell asleep while we were waiting for a bus that would take us to Leith where the Royal Yacht Britannia is docked. Mum was the only one really interested in seeing it, so the rest of us had coffee and a snoop around the large shopping mall where it’s docked.
Nap time in Edinburgh
Toothless in Edinburgh
When MorMor met back with us we found out she hadn’t had enough time to go over the ship, however she’d had a look around the displays. We hopped a bus back to ‘our neighbourhood’. A busy day!

Tired monkeys
WiFi in the flat was terrible; I could only steal WiFi from the public institution across the street if sitting close to the window near reception. The one advantage to that though is the gentleman on reception that evening we very helpful in recommending not just accommodation for the next night but also a route to drive. Nice!
